Greetings and welcome to my blog.

My name is Andrew and I am a first-year chemistry major at the University of California – Irvine. My hobbies include reading, kayaking, hiking, and spending time with my friends and family.

In this blog, I am planning on exploring various empires: both literal empires and metaphorical empires. In posts, I will delve into topics like the structure, history, legacies, and ruins of examples of both of these types of empires.

I began my blog by discussing Death Row as a rap empire. I did this because I am an avid rap listener and enthusiast. I have been listening to rap music since I was a young adult and live in Long Beach, a city with a well-known reputation for several artists including Snoop Dogg and Vince Staples.

In my third blog post, I transitioned from discussing Death Row to directly address the course material and relate it to United States history. I did this to have a greater discussion about course themes, and I am highly interested in history, especially U.S. history. I have been interested in US history since I excelled in my AP US history class in my junior year of high school. I have furthered my interest with extracurricular reading in old textbooks I buy throughout bookstores in LA.
